The Dawn of Fusion

„The Dawn of Fusion“ is a large-scale interactive public installation imagining how we might commemorate humanity’s entry into an era of fusion power.

I was part of a team involved in the design, planning, and construction of a part of the “Monuments of the Future” exhibition of the Design Investigations Department, which acted as the centrepiece of the Angewandte Festival 2025 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

The project is based on a speculative scenario set in the year 2065, where humanity has achieved a breakthrough in nuclear fusion, unlocking virtually unlimited energy for the planet. Our task was to create a monument from this imagined future that commemorates this transformative milestone.

At the heart of the monument stands a glowing torus — an abstract fusion reactor. It evokes the exhilaration of discovery while inviting reflection: in a world of infinite energy, abundance may blind us to consequences — consumption without cost, speed without pause, power without reflection.
